Coachella families celebrate “Candy Cane” Xmas

A Candy Cane Christmas in Coachella was the theme of this year’s holiday parade, kicking off the holiday season in the East Valley.

Annmirey Bryant, 8, says it’s her first year attending.

“I like all of the floats, the cheerleaders, and the ballerinas,” she said.

Neighbors like Mayra Orduno and her family bundled up to watch the dozens of decorated floats stretch along Harrison Street.

“I’m here to support my students and to come and enjoy a good time with my daughter. She loves parades,” said Orduno.

More than a hundred parade entries entertained the crowd with festive routines, holiday tunes and “Lots of lights. Neon lights,” said Orduno.

Local businesses, organizations and schools designed the floats.

“The ones I’ve seen look like it was a lot of work to make them,” said Annmirey.

That hard work didn’t go unnoticed. Awards were given to the best musical performance and most spectacular float.

Orduno says the parade “Makes us look forward to (Christmas) and brings up the holiday spirit.”

The finale, Santa and Mrs. Clause wished parade-goers a Merry Christmas!
