La Quinta City Layoffs

The City of La Quinta has announced it’s laying off 22 employees.
The city council unanimously voted to layoff 21% of it’s workforce, reducing it’s operating costs by $1.8 million, a year.
Cuts were made across all departments, except for public safety.
The most significant cuts were made to community development, public works and the City Manager’s office.
La Quinta City Manager, Frank Spevacek says, “Having to face them and tell them, due to budget constraints we need to reduce staff and eliminate positions, has been a very heavy burden to assume.”
Layoffs go into effect January 17th. Each employee will receive at least 8 weeks of pay and $4,000.00 for healthcare.
