“If they build it” a playground in Desert Hot Springs leading up to Humana Challeng

Nonprofits, officials and volunteers will build a playground in Desert Hot Springs this week leading up to the Humana Challenge golf tournament.
The Humana Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley, the city of Desert Hot Springs, nonprofit playground builder KaBOOM! and volunteers will build the “multi-generational” playground at the Desert Hot Springs Boys & Girls Club on Saturday. The playground, funded mainly by the Humana Foundation, was designed using drawings and input from community members and will be built in six hours, according to Boys & Girls Club spokeswoman Ashley Hudgens.
The playground build is one of several wellness-related events leading up to the Humana Challenge, which is Jan. 14-20 in La Quinta. The 2,788-square- foot complex will have fitness stations, walking paths, playground equipment and picnic areas, Hudgens said.
Desert Hot Springs Mayor Yvonne Parks is expected to attend the build.
