Local Indian tribe plans casino in 29 Palms
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians is moving forward on plans to break ground on a new casino in Twentynine Palms.
The 30,000-square-foot Tortoise Rock Casino will feature 500 slot machines, five table games and two poker tables.
The casino will sit on 30 acres of reservation land at the intersection of Adobe Road and Baseline Road.
The tribe plans to use local contractors during the building phase, and then plans to recruit High Desert residents to work at the casino once it opens for business.
“We’re anticipating the casino will have 100 full and part-time employees with an estimated payroll of probably $4 million, and that’s just for the local community, doesn’t count the corporate officers here, just the direct impact up in Twentynine Palms,” said Tom Sedlock, who will oversee the new casino along with his current duties as general manager of Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella.
Construction is expected to take nine months following the groundbreaking, set for late February or early March.
