DUI checkpoint scheduled for tonight

The Palm Springs Police Department will operate aDUI checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m., and continuing until 2:30 a.m. Saturday,officers will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and make suredrivers are carrying valid driver’s licenses, Sgt. Paul Abshire said, addingthat checkpoints reduce crashes.

People arrested on suspicion of DUI could face jail time, suspension ofdriver’s licenses and higher insurance premiums, he said.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office ofTraffic Safety.
