Indio school on lock down after teen was shot in Indio

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg at an Indio markettoday and a nearby elementary school was temporarily locked down as authoritiessought two suspects, a police spokesman said.

The shooting at K & A Market at Avenue 44 and Towne Street was reportedat 12:12 p.m. The boy had been involved in a confrontation with two other malesand he was shot once, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.

The suspects ran north on Towne. Jackson Elementary School, which isabout two blocks from the market, was locked down for 30 minutes while policelooked for the suspects, Guitron said.

He said the victim was taken to a hospital and his wound wasn’t lifethreatening. One suspect had a handgun and another had a rifle, according toGuitron, who said he didn’t have further descriptions.

“Unfortunately, the victim is not being very cooperative with us sowe’re basically going with what was seen in the area,” he said.
