Palm Spring’s Modernism Week sets attendance record

Palm Springs Modernism Week set an attendancerecord this year by drawing more than 40,000 people, event organizers saidtoday.

Modernism Week, a celebration of the popular design aesthetic from the1950s and 1960s, was held Feb. 14-24. The 2012 festival drew an estimated35,000 people, organizers said.

More than 100 events were held in the Palm Springs area over 11 days,including the Modernism Show at the Palm Springs Convention Center, the new PanAm Exhibition and a”Mad Men” themed cocktail party and the popular double-decker bus tours.

“We are absolutely thrilled about this year’s attendance, and it hasbecome quite clear that Modernism Week is one of the hottest tickets in towneach season,” said Jacques Caussin, chairman of Modernism Week.

He said Uptown Design District stores and nearby restaurants reportedsome of their best numbers of the season, and early reports from the host andsponsor hotels “indicate a significant increase over the previous year.”

The ninth annual Palm Springs Modernism Week is set for Feb. 13-23, 2014.
