Traffic Update: Wind-related road closures continue

Strong winds were continuing to cause trouble for motorists Tuesday morning, but road crews were making progress in reopening major thoroughfares.

VISTA CHINO – Cathedral City and Palm Springs public works employees reopned Vista Chino at 7:10 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol. They were in the process of reopening Vista Chino at 6:30 a.m. That roadway was closed through the White Water wash between Cathedral City and Palm Springs Monday after gusting winds snapped a power pole.

GENE AUTRY – In Palm Springs, Gene Autry Trail was was open as of 12:10 p.m.

INDIAN CANYON – Open

A wind advisory continues throughout the Coachella Valley Tuesday.

In the Coachella Valley the wind will be especially rough north and east of Interstate 10, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

They’re urging motorists to watch out for broken tree limbs and downed power lines, and they say that motorists in high-profile vehicles could find today’s wind event particularly challenging.

Weather Service forecasters also say that visibility in parts of the Coachella Valley will be reduced today because of blowing sand and dust.

High winds today will once again whip across Riverside County, including the Coachella Valley.

The National Weather Service says it recorded a 50-mile-per-hour gust at Sky Valley at 2 o’clock this morning.

A wind advisory will be in effect in the Coachella Valley and the mountains and valleys of Riverside County until 2 this afternoon.

A wind advisory indicates an expectation of winds blowing at 35 miles per hour or greater.
