Live grenade found in Palm Springs home

Palm Springs police evacuated homes on Ventura Rd between Volturno and Vincintia when a live hand grenade was found inside a home.

The hand grenade was discovered, in a home on the 2800 block of Valencia Road, just before 1:00 p.m Friday. The caller was cleaning out the home belonging to a deceased relative when he discovered the live ammunition and a military style hand grenade. The hand grenade was moved to the backyard of the home before the person notified Palm Springs police.

Palm Springs police arrived and evacuated homes in the neighborhood as a precaution. The Riverside County Explosive Ordinance Team was called in to assist. They arrived around 3:00 p.m. Palm Springs Police Spokesman Mike Kovaleff says they took the live grenade to a remote desert area to safely dispose of it. No one was hurt during the incident.
