Two students taken to hospital after school bus crash in Cathedral City

Two students were taken to a hospital after theschool bus in which they were riding got into a fender bender with an SUV inCathedral City today, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The crash was reported at 7:25 a.m. on 30th Avenue west of San ElanAvenue. A Palm Springs Unified School District bus, driven by 43-year-old MariaJimenez of Coachella, was in the left-turn lane on 30th Avenue when a FordExplorer driven by 42-year-old Cathedral City Gonzolo Lopez Jr., merged intothe bus’s path, CHP Officer Joe Zagorski said.

The bus’s right front bumper struck the SUV’s left front fender,Zagorski said. A number of students on the bus complained of pain, and two weretransported to Desert Regional Medical Center for pain treatment. Lopezreceived minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Zagorski said.

There were 44 students on the bus. The conditions of the two studentstaken to the hospital was unknown, according to Zagorski.
