Caregiver accused of killing seniors charged with murder

A convicted felon accused of killing two Moreno Valleyseniors for whom he worked as a caregiver was charged today with two countsof first-degree murder and other felonies.

Drew Colston Stelp, 51, was arrested Monday afternoon in connection withthe double homicide that occurred at a house owned by one of the victims inthe 24000 block of Bay Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’sDepartment.

Along with the murder counts, Stelp is charged with burglary, two countseach of attempted murder and robbery and a sentence-enhancing allegation oftaking multiple lives in the same crime, which could make him eligible for thedeath penalty if convicted.

The defendant, who was being held without bail at the Robert PresleyJail in Riverside, was slated to make his initial court appearance thisafternoon.
