Hotel Zoso to lay off 90 employees before Hard Rock’s debut

Hotel Zoso, the soon-to-be Hard Rock Hotel, will create a new look all around from the rooms, lobby and pool area, all of the way to its staff. About 90 Hotel Zoso employees received a notice of termination on Friday, according to general manager Hector Moreno.

A copy of the letter was sent to us from one of those expected to lose their jobs.

“It’s horrible to hear anyone will be losing their jobs. The economy is already bad as it is. I know it’s going to be hard,” said hotel guest Ryan Lett.

Moreno confirmed that he met with employees Friday morning and sent them the letter which states that “employee layoffs will commence on July 7th, and we anticipate that you will be separated from the company.”

July is when the hotel will officially close for renovations, eliminating and terminating the employment of many employees.

Moreno calls the layoffs a “temporary setback.”

Hotel officials say they expect to add 30 percent more jobs in the Fall, totaling to about 135 employees. Management encourages everyone who received a layoff notice to reapply when the new branded hotel is set to open.

While Hotel Zoso employees hope to join the Hard Rock team, the debut of the new brand has Bill’s Pizza looking to get a slice of good business.

“I believe Hard Rock will draw in a lot of its own following. They’re going to want to explore Palm Springs and we’re literally outside its front door,” said restaurant manger, Steve
