3 hikers missing in San Bernardino Mountains found safe

Three hikers who vanished during a weekend hike in the San Bernardino Mountains have been found safe.

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s helicopter crew found the men at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the North Fork Meadows area, at an elevation of more than 6,000 feet.

The Sheriff’s Department says Ryan Shankles, David Yoder and Miguel De La Torre appear to be in good condition although they might have minor hypothermia.

The area had recent rain, some snow flurries and temperatures in the 20s.

The men set out on Sunday, intending a day hike to the top of Mount San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California at around 11,500 feet.
