State approves 2 local freeway improvement projects
The state’s Transportation Commission approvedfunding today for 114 projects statewide, including two in the CoachellaValley.
The funding included more than $476 million from Proposition 1B, atransportation bond approved by voters in 2006, Caltrans spokeswoman TerriKasinga said.
The local projects are:
— Interstate10/Monterey Avenue interchange ramp modifications in PalmDesert, funded by $2.8 million in Proposition 1B and local funds.
— Improvements on state Route 62 near Desert Hot Springs, from Route 10to Indian Avenue. Work includes overlaying about 26 lane miles of pavement,widening 12 lane miles of inside shoulder, overlaying bridge decks withpolyester concrete, reconstructing a metal beam guardrail and making drainageimprovements. Cost is $15.3 million, funded by the State Highway Operation andProtection Program, or SHOPP.
