Second quake hits southern CA; this time a 4.0 in Rancho Palos Verdes

A magnitude-4.0 earthquake rattled portionsof the South Bay today.

The quake, which was originally reported with a magnitude of 3.9 but wasquickly upgraded, struck at 1 p.m. six miles south of Rancho Palos Verdes andseven miles southwest of San Pedro, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Los Angeles police Sgt. Gerry Davlia said there haven’t been any reports of damage or injuries in the San Pedro area, several miles away from the epicenter.

It was the latest in a series of temblors that have hit the Southland inrecent weeks. Three quakes have struck in the Marina del Rey area — amagnitude-3.0 on Thursday afternoon, a magnitude-2.8 around 8 p.m. April 28 anda magnitude-3.2 quake around 8 p.m. April 26.

This is also the second quake to hit southern California today. A magnitude-3.1 quake hit just outside of Cabazon at 9:20 this morning.
