Onion spill shuts down highway in Coachella

Eastbound lanes of the HWY 86 expressway were closed today after a big rig carrying two crates of onions hit a sedan and spilled onions all over the road.

The accident happened at around 11:30 a.m.. near the corner of HWY 86 and Avenue 50.

The big rig carrying onions was traveling north on the 86 Expressway when it tried to stop for a light but ended up colliding with a sedan and flipped over into the southbound lanes.

The trailer with onions detached from the rig, and flipped over.

No one was hurt, and they had the roadway cleared up in about an hour and a half.
