Gov. Brown to greet Obama at Palm Springs airport, meet with Xi in Indian Wells

California Gov. Jerry Brown will greet PresidentBarack Obama at the Palm Springs Airport on Friday and meet with ChinesePresident Xi Jinping in Indian Wells on Saturday, the governor’s officeannounced today.

Brown will meet Obama about 3 p.m. Friday when the president arrives forhis summit with Xi at the Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage, then meet withXi about noon Saturday at the Hyatt Regency in Indian Wells, according toBrown’s office.

A statement from the governor’s office said there have been a year and ahalf of “significant diplomatic and business exchanges” between Californiaand China, including the Governor’s Trade and Investment Mission to China inApril and meetings with Xi during his visit to California last February, whenhe was vice president of China.

During the Trade and Investment Mission, Brown met with top Chineseofficials and signed what his office said were the first-ever agreementsbetween a state-like entity and Chinese ministries. Brown also opened theCalifornia-China Office of Trade and Investment in Shanghai, spoke about onclimate change at Tsinghua University in Beijing, met with the U.S. ambassadorto China at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and spoke at forums hosted by theAmerican Chamber of Commerce-South China and the American Chamber of Commercein Beijing.

Obama is meeting with Xi Friday and Saturday at Sunnylands.
