Teen killed during fight at house party in Indio ID’d
A fight at a house party between relatives in Indo leaves a teenager dead.
It happened at a home on the 83100 block of Sonora Avenue between Jackson and Palo Verde.
Indio police says after hours of partying a disagreement turned deadly.
“I think its terrible,” said neighbor Janeth Hernadez-Patino.
Evidence markers show where 17 year-old Alexis Ramirez was found just after 3 in the morning.
Indio police were called out to the home for a fight.
When officers arrived Ramirez was lying dead in the street.
“I think this is very sad. There are a lot of struggles in the neighborhood and it would be nice to see more involvement, so people have positive things going on in their lives because the children get caught up in these things,” said Lynn Lockard who works nearby.
Three other people were found hurt, and transported to the hospital with serious to moderate injuries.
“I was so surprised I was like wow,” said neighbor Marisala Vargas.
Police say everyone involved is related. Police believe they were all partying when a disagreement lead to a fist fight.
What they were arguing about is still a mystery, police say some of the people involved are not cooperating.
Neighbors tell us normally this is a quiet neighborhood, and everyone gets along. That’s why they were shocked to hear something like this happen.
“I walk by here every morning to go to my work out class so I feel, i don’t feel safe, I just live on the other side of the neighborhood,” said Hernadez-Patino.
Marisala Vargas just moved from Arizona. “This is the first time that I saw this. It was around like 3.30 in the morning and I woke up and I am scared.”
Vargas says her daughter thought she heard gun shots around the time of the fight. Police did not say if shots were fired, but did confirm that none of the victims were shot. Indio police says the only weapons used were hands and feet.
“I’m hoping for better things for the community,” said Lockard.
Sonora Avenue was blocked between Jackson Street and Palo Verde Avenueto accommodate police.
