Burglary suspect being sought was already in jail

A Thousand Palms man already in jail on drug and weaponscounts is also suspected of committing residential burglaries in Indian Wells,a sheriff’s sergeant said today.

Authorities served a search warrant in La Quinta last month inconnection with burglaries in the 45000 block of Indian Wells Lane and thenearby Miramonte Resort, which were reported starting April 30.

As a result of the search, Nathan Madlin, 29, was implicated in theburglaries, authorities said. Several stolen items and firearms were found,sheriff’s Sgt. Shaun Myers said.

He said authorities learned Monday that Madlin was in custody — onunrelated charges — at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.According to court and jail records, Madlin was arrested last Thursday in PalmDesert and charged Tuesday with possession of controlled substances andcarrying a knife, both felonies.

He is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail, and charges of residentialburglary, illegal weapons possession, vehicle theft and vehicle burglary willbe filed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for the IndianWells crimes, Myers said.
