Progress on SoCal fire that burned 100 buildings
Cooler, calm weather is helping fire crews battle a Southern California wildfire that destroyed at least 100 buildings at a mountain camp.
State fire spokesman Mike Mohler says the blaze is 40 percent contained Wednesday and barely moved overnight.
Mohler says there’s a chance of thunderstorms later in the day that might wet down the hotspots.
The fire near Julian in San Diego County has burned 11 square miles of brush and evacuation orders remain in effect for 120 structures, mostly empty vacation cabins.
On Monday, the fire overran a Shriners camp. The organization says it burned a lodge, dining hall and most of the 116 cabins.
Mohler says 100 structures burned but authorities haven’t confirmed how many were cabins or sheds and outbuildings.
