Banning man in custody after stabbing his co-worker
A man was stabbed twice in his chest during a fight with a co-worker at a Banning warehouse, and sheriff’s deputies later arrested a suspect for allegedly attacking him, officials said.
Dispatchers received a call at 6:30 p.m. Saturday from emergency room staff at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning about a 23-year-old man who was being treated for his injuries, Banning police Sgt. Alex Diaz said.
Officers learned through an interpreter the victim was stabbed with a folding knife at a factory warehouse in the 900 block of East Williams Street, Diaz said.
Police later went to the warehouse and found the suspect, Antonio Jesus Cadena, 23, who explained that he used the folding knife to defend himself.
Cadena told police officers where the weapon was and they recovered it, Diaz said.
Cadena was arrested and booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He remained in custody today in lieu of $25,000 bail, online jail records showed.
It was unclear why Cadena and the man he allegedly stabbed fought but Diaz said the two men apparently didn’t get along with each other.
