Indio police looking for man who robbed woman outside Bank of America branch
Indio police are looking for a man who robbed a woman more than two weeks ago outside a Bank of America branch. He got away with thousands of dollars in money raised by a community church.
The incident happened on July 8 around 11:30 a.m. at the Bank of America branch on Highway 111 in Indio. Police said the financial manager of the Las Palmas Community Church was robbed as she was about to enter the rear entrance of the bank.
She was carrying a bank deposit bag containing $11,000 in cash. The church had raised the money through its 4th of July fireworks sales.
“I was getting ready to go in the door. The gentleman I thought was being kind to open the door and he pulled the door open, and and then all of a sudden grabbed the money,” said Patricia Young, financial manager for Las Palmas Community Church.
Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron says they have surveillance video of the incident, but the pictures aren’t very good.
“It’s unfortunate. We are glad that the lady from the church was not injured during the incident, but obviously its an ongoing investigation and we’re asking the public’s help to see if they can ID who this was,” said Guitron.
In running from the scene, the robber dropped approximately $2,000, which was returned to the church.
