Woman arrested after admitting she had “unknown substance” in her shoes
A woman was arrested Tuesday near the Salton Sea after she told Border Patrol agents she was trying to take two pounds of cocaine through the Highway 86 checkpoint.
At around 9:30 a.m., the woman was pulling through the checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City. After a short series of questions from the agents, the woman admitted she was smuggling an “unknown substance” in her shoes.
A search of her shoes revealed two small packages wrapped in brown tape. The substance found inside tested positive for cocaine. The cocaine had a combined weight of approximately 2.34 pounds with an estimated street value of $64,000.
The woman, a citizen of the United States, was arrested and turned over to the DEA along with the car and drugs for further investigation.
