Woman killed after being hit by truck in DHS identified

A 36-year-old woman died this morning in Desert Hot Springs after being hit by a truck on Mountain View Road just north of Whitney Court. The woman was hit at 5:29 a.m., just around dawn.

The driver was a man, stopped after hitting the woman and was fully cooperative with police. He is not expected to be arrested or detained.

Police do not think the woman was a transient. Commander Ken Peary says everything points to the incident simply being a tragic accident. It is not known where on the road the woman was when she was hit.

Nearby residents say it’s time for some changes on the road to make it safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

“Well, they really need sidewalks. I mean people are walking along that thing and those cars are speeding by and you can’t see people, it’s dark,” said Carol Casal, who has lived in a neighborhood off Mountain View Road for the past 3 years.

Mountain View Road was closed for several hours after the accident between Via Domingo and Alexandria and has been reopened.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

UPDATE: The woman has been identified as 36-year-old Andrea Mitchell Solorzano of Desert Hot Springs.
