Man arrested after stealing backpack from car in Palm Desert

Police arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly stole a backpack from an unlocked car in Palm Desert.

The theft was first reported at 6:11 a.m. Wednesday, but at the time no information was available on the suspect or his whereabouts. An hour and a half later, though, the victim noticed a man walking in the area of Cook St and Hwy 111 with the backpack.

Police responded to the area, and when the suspect noticed them, he jump a wall into Desert Horizons Country Club. Authorities created a perimeter around the area, and the suspect was located a short time later in the 75400 block of Riviera Dr in Indian Wells.

Police arrested the suspect, 20-year-old Dominick Longo of Palm Desert, for possession of stolen property and violation of probation. He was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
