Palm Springs police officers look for impaired drivers at DUI checkpoint tonight

The Palm Springs Police Department will operate a DUI checkpoint Friday at an undisclosed location.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m., and continuing until 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and make sure drivers are carrying valid driver’s licenses, Sgt. Harvey Reed said.

Checkpoints reduce crashes, Reed said, noting that people arrested on suspicion of DUI could face jail time, suspension of driver’s licenses and higher insurance premiums.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
