Bobcat released into wild after being hit by car
A bobcat was released back into the wild Sunday after being hit by a car and treated by Riverside County Animal Services, according to authorities.
Just after midnight Sunday, officers responded to a report from a man saying he hit a “tiger” with his car.
Officers arrived at La Sierra Avenue in Riversideto find a bobcat hiding under the car near one of the front wheels. Animal control was able to get the bobcat out using a catch pole, and said the animal appeared to be dazed.
They rushed the bobcat to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Grand Terrace.The young bobcat, about 8 months in age, appeared to have a concussion, a veterinary doctor at the clinic reported. Abrasions to his head and body were visible but there were no major injuries.
Later on Sunday, the bobcat seemed to be recovering well as he seemed much more alert and “spunky.”
After consulting with The Living Desert, the veterinary doctor at the Grand Terrace clinic and with veterinary professionals at the county’s main shelter in Jurupa Valley, the consensus was to release the bobcat back into the wild.
The bobcat was released in a rural location near La Sierra Avenue and El Sobrante Road, a spot that was within four miles of where he was first found.
