Man dies after losing control of car in DHS

A man died Saturday morning after losing control of his car and smashing into another vehicle while driving in Desert Hot Springs, according to police.

Just before 9 a.m., 23-year-old Joshua Kelly of Desert Hot Springs was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring northbound on Indian Canyon Dr near Pierson Blvd when, for reasons still unknown, he lost control of his car and spun into oncoming traffic. The passenger side of Kelly’s car hit the front of an oncoming Toyata pickup.

Kelly, who was not wearing aseatbelt, was ejected from the car and died from his injuries on-scene.

The driver of the pickup, James Kennedy of Desert Hot Springs, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

This collision is still under investigation, however, alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a contributing factor, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.
