Remains found in DHS in 2009 finally identified

The charred body of a man found near DesertHot Springs four years ago was identified as that man reported missing inNevada City, Calif.

Isaiah Marsh’s body was found June 12, 2009, near Long Canyon Road andHacienda Avenue, according to Riverside County sheriff’s deputies. He wasbelieved to be 30 years old.

His body was set on fire, but coroner’s investigators were unable to pindown a cause of death. Marsh’s family reported him missing April 2009,according to the sheriff’s department, which labeled the case “suspicious.”

Genetic evidence eventually sent to the Department of Justice foranalysis this year was a match for Marsh.

Marsh had been dead 5-10 days when his body was found, according to thecoroner’s office.

A vigil and benefit concert was held in Nevada City, Calif., for Marshin May 2009, according to website set up with by family members. According tothe Union newspaper in Grass Valley, Marsh had been missing since roughly April14.

“It’s not like him to take off,” friend Sara Wilkins told thenewspaper. “He always takes his phone charger with him … ”

Marsh’s F-350 pickup was found a month later in Riverside County. Anyonewith more information was asked to call deputies at (951) 955-2777.
