Heavy rains flood areas of mountain burn areas

Heavy rains fell late Friday afternoon, causing widespread flooding and a few mudslides near Poppet Flats, shutting down Highway 243 for a short time.

The storm struck just after 4:00 p,m. Emergency crews were dispatched to the area, after reports that Highway 243 was flooded and that there were several mudslides in the area. Crews worked and had Highway 243 reopened about 2 hours later.

The weather service says the storms could strike Riverside and San Bernardino counties through Saturday and into next week.

Early Saturday morning, Palm Springs Police sent out an alert that Araby Drive at the wash is closed due to flooding. No word on when they expect the road to reopen.
