Valley’s first commercial brewery opens to the public
The Coachella Valley’s first commercial brewery is now open in Thousand Palms.
A ribbon cutting is scheduled at noon at Coachella Valley Brewing Co.,30640 Gunther St. Attendees can take tours of the brewery and taste five beers,and master brewer Chris Anderson will answer questions, according to theCoachella Valley Economic Partnership’s Small Business Development Center,which helped launch the brewery. It will be open until 9 p.m.
The 7,053-square-foot craft brewery offers beers with names like Monk’sMirage, Double Date and Desert Swarm, and will add 10 new jobs by the end ofthe year. It is one of a few breweries in the world to use a “green” brewingsystem that utilizes less water and energy, and spent grain is donated to localfarmers for feed, according to the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership.
The brewery is using local farmers’ seasonally grown products in theirbeers, with six seasonal brews rotating every three months. Jamie Humphrey, whogot the idea for the brewery with her husband David, told City News Servicethat some of their beers are made with dates from Hadley’s Fruit Orchards,kumquats from the east valley and local honey.
Beers will be distributed to local businesses, including Ace Hotel &Swim Club, Schmidy’s Tavern, 3rd Corner Wine Shop & Bistro, Jensen’s, BristolFarms and Morton’s.
The brewery is using herbs grown at The Living Desert in its Big CatBrew, and part of the proceeds will go to the zoo. The brewery is also workingwith Bosch Baking in Thousand Palms to serve pretzels in its tasting room.
