City of Palm Springs is collection point for FIND Food Bank this month

The city of Palm Springs will collect items for a local food bank throughout September, which is Hunger Awareness Month in the Coachella Valley.

People can bring canned food for the FIND Food Bank to the lobby of Palm Springs City Hall at 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way and to the Palm Springs Public Library at 300 S. Sunrise Way, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said.

FIND will also bring its new mobile food pantry to the second annual Mayor’s Healthy Planet, Healthy You Race and Wellness Festival on Jan. 11 in Ruth Hardy Park, Blaisdell said.

“We believe it is vital for all desert cities to join together in a committed coalition to make the Coachella Valley a hunger-free zone,” said FIND CEO Lisa Houston.

FIND distributes food to more than 80,000 people per month in the Coachella Valley via more than 100 community organizations, including soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after-school programs and senior centers.
