“Porn revenge” could soon be illegal
We found someone who, like many women, didn’t think twice about sending her boyfriend a naked picture of herself.
“He asked for it and I sent it, stupidly,” she said wanting to stay anonymous.
They’re not together anymore.
“I trusted him and he didn’t post it or send it out or anything. It’s happening though, and I knew it’s a possibility it could have been me,” she said.
She’s talking about “revenge porn”, posting x-rated photos and videos online without their her consent. It’s been around for years with many websites profiting off the images. The California state Assembly is debating a bill to make “revenge porn” a crime, punishable by up to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine.
“Say the person is trying to be like a Governor or something, don’t you think that would be bad for her campaign if naked pictures were popping up on the web?” Daniel Rivera said.
Others say if you want to be Governor, or even if you don’t, think twice before hitting send on something you can’t take back.
“We show our friends. We show everybody. Either way we’re going to show it to everyone we know in person, or online it’ll be people we don’t know,” Bridge Leon said.
Next time someone asks for this kind of picture, remember it’s not just risque, it’s a risk.
“A picture is not going to better a relationship. It’s not going to make him want you, not going to make him fall in love with you. You shouldn’t send any naked pictures out. Send a picture of your beautiful face,” the woman who wished to remain anonymous said.
