Ruiz announces funding for more local law enforcement

Today, Rep. Raul Ruiz announced $750,000 in funding to hire more law enforcement officers throught the 36th district. The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) awarded grants to the police departments of Hemet, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, and the City of Coachella.

“This grant will provide much needed funding to add more police officers to the force and help build safer, stronger communities across the 36th district,” said Dr. Ruiz. “I congratulate the City of Coachella and the Indio, Desert Hot Springs, and Hemet Police Departments on this award and thank them for their continued service to our community.”

Grantees for the 2013 hiring program were selected based on their fiscal needs, local crime rates, and community policing plans.

The City of Coachella was awarded $250,000; Desert Hot Spring Police Department was awarded $125,000; the Hemet Police Department was awarded $250,000; and the Indio Police Department was awarded $125,000.
