Old military explosive found buried in backyard
A Jurupa Valley resident finds an old military device buried in his backyard Saturday evening.
Jurupa Valley Police say they were called to 8000 block of Pyrite Street just after 5:00 pm for a small object believed to be an explosive device.
The resident told police, it was found buried in their backyard.
Deputies instructed the resident to place the small object on the ground and deputies evacuated the immediate area.
The Riverside County Hazardous Device Team x-rayed the object and determined the object to be an old inert military projectile. The Hazardous Device Team took possession of the projectile for destruction.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to inform the public when an object is located, which appears hazardous in nature, to leave the object where it was found and call 911 from a landline. It could be dangerous to call from a cell phone near and around any suspected explosive devices, when possible.
