Overnight wreck in Indian Wells leaves one person dead, another injured

One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle accident in Indian Wells early Wednesday, says Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A single red Acura crashed into a tree on Fred Waring Drive and Yellow Sage Drive at 12:39 a.m., police say. The location is adjacent to the Desert Horizons Country Club.

A 24-year-old female driver suffered minor injuries, while her passenger, a 24-year-old male, died at the scene, police say. The identities of both parties are being withheld at this time.

Deputy Julio Oseguera says preliminary investigation shows that speed and drinking are not factors in this crash. He says police have talked with the driver, and the investigation is ongoing.

Fred Waring eastbound from Cook to El Dorado was closed for nearly 8 hours as crews investigated the crash.
