3 blood drives will take place in Coachella Valley

Desert Blood Services will hold three blood drives in the Coachella Valley this weekend.

Two blood drives are scheduled Saturday– from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Kmart in Indio, 81691 Highway 111, and Noon to 4 p.m. at Albertsons in Palm Desert, 42095 Washington St.

On Sunday, a blood drive will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Our Lady of Soledad Catholic Church, 52555 Oasis Palm Ave., Coachella.

Donors at the Albertsons location will receive a $10 Albertsons gift card; those who donate at Kmart will be given a $10 Kmart gift card; and those who donate at the church will get a free movie ticket, according to Desert Blood Services spokesman Don Escalante.

All donors get a free cholesterol screening and physical.

Healthy people at least 15 years old can give blood, but those 15 and 16 years old must provide written parental consent. Photo identification is required, and all donors should eat before arriving and be well-hydrated, according to Desert Blood Services.

Desert Blood Services provides blood products for Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe and Bush Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms.
