Convict dies while on electronic home confinement in Rancho Mirage

Rancho Mirage police were investigating the death of an inmate who was on electronic home confinement, according to a sergeant.

Police responded just before noon Tuesday to a home in the 42000 block of Ocotillo Drive after a client had failed to report, said Rancho Mirage Sgt.Andy Martinez.

“Officers arrived and found the client deceased,” Martinez said.

“Investigators from the Sheriff’s Palm Desert Station and the Coroner’s Bureau responded and assumed the investigation,” he said. “At this point, foul play is not believed to be a factor in this incident.”

The man’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin, Martinez said.
