Major construction project planned for I-10

Periodic road construction will take place on I-10 between Monterey Avenue and Washington Street beginning in January.

According to officials with Caltrans, crews will be constructing a concrete median barrier and they’ll also be widening the outside shoulder of the interstate. Construction will only take place during the night to alleviate traffic concerns.

The construction project begins on Thursday, January 2, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Additional work will continue on Friday, January 3, during the same hours. Officials said detours will be marked.

Schedule: First 2 weeks of construction

The work will be intermittent and the project is scheduled to wrap up sometime in May, according to transportation officials. The construction project will cost $3.2 million and will be handled by Chumo Construction of Baldwin Park.

Authorities with the transportation department said the project will reduce the severity of crashes on the interstate.
