Palm Springs man identified after deadly crash

A 50-year-old Palm Springs man died after crashing his truck on I-10 Thursday around 5 p.m. The coroner identified the man as Jerry Wilson.

Authorities said the man was driving eastbound near Banning. The crash happened about a half mile east of Hargrave Street.

Witnesses told police that the man was driving in the slow lane and was drifting into the shoulder of the interstate before he somehow lost control of his truck and drove off the roadway. His truck went down a dirt embankment and hit boulders and a tree.

Wilson was partially ejected in the crash, according to the coroner’s report. He died at the scene.

The man was the only one in the truck and he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

CHP and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office is still investigating the cause of the accident. Officers said alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as possible factors in the crash.
