Roads closed due to Palm Desert gas leak

A gas leak near Monterey Avenue and Magnesia Falls Drive has authorities diverting traffic in the area. The gas company has shut down Monterey Avenue northbound and southbound from Country Club Drive to Fred Waring Drive, according to City officials.

It’s possible that the road could be closed through Wednesday morning, according to officials. Resident in the area will be able to reach their neighborhoods through proper identification.

The public is encouraged to use alternate routes while crews assess the problem.

A shelter in place is in effect for residents of the Southwest corner of the Monterey Country Club, authorities said.

According to Cal Fire, no homes or businesses have been evacuated, but you should avoid driving in the area while crews address the problem.

The gas leak was reported around 11:30 a.m; the cause is still under investigation.
