Body of man found in burned garage in LA

Authorities say the body of a 61-year-old man has been discovered by Los Angeles firefighters putting out a pre-dawn fire in a detached garage that had been converted into a home in the San Fernando Valley.

Fire officials say the blaze was reported shortly after 4 a.m. in a residential area of Winnetka.

The fire was knocked down in less than 20 minutes. After putting out the flames firefighters discovered the man’s body.

Fire Battalion Chief Steve Ruda tells City News Service the victim, whose name was not released, was living amid pack-rat conditions.

Ruda says the victim was a longtime friend of the property owners.

No other injuries were reported. An arson unit is investigating.
