Indio police plan DUI checkpoint over weekend

Indio police officers will operate a DUI and drivers license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city this weekend, the department announced Thursday.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 8 p.m Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. Officers will check for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, and for proper licensing, according to police spokesman Ben Guitron.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
