2 passengers killed in crash on Hwy. 60

Two passengers traveling in a Camry were killed after the driver was cut off by another vehicle on SR-60 Wednesday night. Police are looking for information to track down the driver who caused the accident.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. as 34 year old Tiffany Ayala of Cathedral City was approaching Jackrabbit Trail in Beaumont. According to witnesses, Ayala lost control of her Camry and drove off the north side of the highway after an unknown vehicle unsafely changed lanes in front of her.

Her car ended up crashing into a large oak tree. CHP said a 19 year old woman from Artesia was riding in the front seat and a 36 year old man from Las Vegas was riding in the back of the car; both were killed instantly.

Ayala was trapped in the wreckage but was able to use her cell phone to call family in Cathedral City, who in turn called 911, according to authorities. She was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley with major injuries.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the San Gorgonio Pass CHP office at (951) 769-2000.

The investigation is being handled by CHP Officer Roland Burgess and Officer Sam Fernandez.
