Man arrested for shooting death in Twentynine Palms
A man was shot and killed Monday night in Twentynine Palms after an argument with the suspected shooter., according to investigators with the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department.
Police arrested 51-year-old Raymond Burney at the scene. They said the shooting happened in the 6300 block of Palm View Avenue around 9:40 p.m.
Deputies with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station found the victim suffering from a gun shot wound and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released yet.
Burney was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on murder charges. Deputies said he was on supervised probation for possession of cocaine after being released early from county jail.
They said he was released early because he was a non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious offender. The release was part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan to comply with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision requiring the state of California to lower its prison population by 30,000.
