Students get new technology to boost education

Some students at Palm Desert Charter Middle School received 13 new Chromebooks on Wednesday.

The special delivery came from the Desert Sands Unified School District’s Educational Foundation. The foundation raised the money to purchase the devices back in November through its first ‘Hike for Education’.

The teachers were very excited to receive the new learning tools. They said the Chromebooks enhance learning in the classroom.

“It streamlines writing, it makes it so much easier, it’s quicker, more content, it’s less frustration, and they have access to so many things if they want to research something,” said Lorrie Girten, who teaches sixth grade. “It’s just a wonderful tool.”

Denise Powell, a seventh grade teacher, said, “It’s better for us and better for them [students] as well.”

School officials said the ultimate goal is for a Chromebook to be available to every student in the Desert Sands Unified School District in the future.
