7-Eleven robbery suspect fires two shots, injures bystander in Indio
A bystander was slightly wounded by a ricocheting bullet after a robber twice fired a handgun during a heist at a 7-Eleven in Indio, police said.
The bystander was struck in the head and took himself to a hospital with a minor wound, said Indio Police spokesman Ben Guitron.
The ricochet was the second of two shots fired by the robber during the holdup of the 7-Eleven convenience store at 44076 Jackson Street around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The robber also fired a round at a display case before demanding money from the cash register, Guitron said, adding the store clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.
After firing the second shot, the suspect left the store in an older white two-door sedan, travelling eastbound on Avenue 44, Guitron said.
Guitron described the suspect as Latino, short and heavyset, 5’2″, 230 lbs. and about 30 years old.
He had dark hair, a mustache, a black hoodie, two-tone blue checkered baggy shorts and white socks.
