President Obama and king of Jordan set to meet at Sunnylands Estate

Vice President Joe Biden tweeted a photo from his official residence of his breakfast meeting Wednesday with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

According to the White House, their talks keyed on the civil war in Syria.

When the king of Jordan and President Barack Obama meet at the Sunnylands Estate in Rancho Mirage on Friday, the war in the neighboring country of Jordan is also expected to be front and center.

Jordan has absorbed more than a half a million refugees from Syria, putting a further strain on the country’s natural resources and infrastructure.

The United States and Jordan have worked closely together since the Eisenhower administration and President Obama and King Abdullah II first became aquainted when Obama was serving in the U.S. Senate.

While the White House has said little about what the two leaders will talk about during their visit to Sunnylands, Jordan officials say the king hopes his talks in Washington and his meeting with the president will lead the U.S. to assure financial assistance to Jordan through 2017.
