Residents urged to prepare for heavy rainfall, flooding

With heavy rain expected in Riverside County this weekend, Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department have delivered sand and sandbags to fire stations in burned areas from last year’s wildfires.

Sandbags have been delivered to:

Lakeland Village Station 11 (33020 Maiden Lane)
Garner Valley Station 53 (59200 Morris Ranch Road)
Poppet Flats Station 63 (49575 Orchard Road)

Officials said all other fire stations stock sand bags only (no sand) in limited supply.

If you suspect your home may be prone to flooding, or is actively flooding, call 911.

Residents, especially those in and below burned areas, should prepare their homes in advance of flooding, according to fire officials. They encourage everyone to take advantage before these storms hit Riverside County.

They also warn motorists not to drive through flooded areas. If you come across a flooded area while driving, stop, turn the car around and take another route.

Nearly half of all flash flood deaths are vehicle related, officials said in a release.
