Wet weather aftermath: Road closures and repairs

PSPD: Indian Canyon closed from the freeway to San Rafael. Araby closed at the wash.

Repair crews worked over the weekend to shore up a small section of eroded flood control levee on Palm Springs’ southern side, as heavy runoff continued to flow into Coachella Valley flood control channels.

A small section of concrete lining gave way along the Araby Wash, which carries water from Palm Canyon across the southern section of Palm Springs and feeds into the normally-dry Whitewater River flood channel. Our reporter and weathercaster Danielle Gersh just spoke with the Smoke Tree Ranch, who says repairs to the levee are nearly complete.

Only two roads in Palm Springs remain closed where water flowed through flood control channels, and over pavements at normally-dry dips: Indian Canyon Drive and Araby Road.

Palm Springs police Saturday reported that Golf Club Drive and Gene Autry opened over the weekend.

Meteorologist Jerry Steffen says there’s no more rain in the forecast, and we can expect highs in the 80’s by Wednesday.
